Fundraising event in December 2015.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all who supported our fundraising event in December 2015. We want to say we are forever grateful for all the donations both financially and in kind towards the raffle as well as the attendance on the night, despite the heavy rain many had to ‘overcome’ in order to attend. Special thanks go to Helen Ormiston who did a fantastic job of hosting the event and Lynette Jordan who facilitated the stories session.

Those of you who turned up on the night had the opportunity to hear one of our clients from Iraq share his story of his brother who was beheaded. It was however very heart-warming to hear him share his passion for people and his desire to study anthropology as he now seeks to understand why people behave the way they do. One of the wonderful people on the night offered to support him on that journey and we look forward to a bright future for this young man.

In total, we raised £593 which went towards supporting the work of Radiant and Brighter. We would also like to thank The Key Store on Cathcart Road, Kashmir Stores, Royal Bank of Scotland, Marks and Spencer, Cathcart District Housing Association, BRGR, The Battlefield Co-op, Cineworld and Exotic African Treats (E.A.T) for all the support and fantastic raffle prizes. It was great to have 12 Marks and Spencer Managers attending on the night too, we look forward to working together more in the future.

We also must say what a performance from Lea Gilmore and Jonny from Centre Stage who volunteered to perform for us free! Thank you very much indeed, we can’t wait to work with you again next year. With us this time, make sure you can come next year, you sure don’t want to miss again!

We also especially want to thank Rev. Derrick and Elinor Watson and Cathcart Baptist Church for providing a free venue. The fundraising would not have been such a success without your support.

Following several requests from many of you, we will be launching a friends of Radiant and Brighter fundraising campaign next year. This will enable those who would like to make regular or one-off donations to the work of Radiant and Brighter. As many of you will know, we are not core funded and currently depend on unpaid volunteers so this would make it possible for us to continue our work with migrants who often do not know where to turn.

Event Details

Following The Diversity Event at The Glasgow City Chambers in September, we would like to invite you to join us again to mark the importance of communities coming together at Christmas. Celebrating the festive period together and acting as role models for inclusion at this special time of year.

In an evening celebration, you will have the opportunity to catch up with people who shared their stories in September and hear updates on how they have moved on. They so welcome your support and encouragement. You will also have the opportunity to network and enjoy a fabulous Hot African Buffet. Don’t miss out on the raffle!

We are a small team of 4 unpaid volunteers and are thankful that your support has enabled us to reach over 250 people this year. As the need for our work continues to grow, we are hoping to raise £20,000 which will make it possible for us to pay rent and operational costs for next year. It will make it possible for us to provide and safe, learning community space for migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who often find themselves in new communities with no understanding of the new systems and often no friends or family.
