Pheona Matovu – Radiant and Brighter

Born in Uganda, Matovu and her husband Michael set up their social enterprise after five difficult years that brought them from London to Glasgow.

She came to the UK in 1998 on a student visa at the age of 23 and later married, but in 2007 was refused indefinite leave to remain after filling in the wrong paperwork.

No longer eligible to work or receive benefits, they and their three children relocated to Glasgow for its cheaper cost of living, and eventually received permission for permanent residence in 2012.
