My journey with Radiant and Brighter so far . . . .from volunteer, to part time administrator and now employed full time in administration and communications.
Upon my return from volunteering in Tanzania in 2016, I began volunteering with R&B while I tried to find a job. I stopped volunteering when I found a job and went on to work as an employability advisor part time and then full time as a marketing assistant for a corporate company. However, I wasn’t happy or fulfilled but I needed money so for 9 months that’s what I did. I finally had enough and resigned to go travelling in SE Asia while I decided what to do next. After 2 months I returned home and realised that I needed to try harder to find a job that I was passionate about.
Luckily Radiant and Brighter offered me a job as administrator part time and I jumped at the chance. I was finally back where I belonged. In the time I had been away R&B had made great progress and were finally getting the recognition that they deserved.
Working at Radiant and Brighter is a dream come true! I work with the most incredible team, always greeted with a smile and there isn’t a day that goes by when the office isn’t filled with laughter. We are a small team (it feels more like a family) but we manage to get a lot of work done. At Radiant and Brighter we focus on the positive and what we can change. I see positive results every day and it feels so great to be part of a team leading the way on diversity in Scotland. Coming from a hostile environment to a positive and collaborative environment makes me so happy. My team are so supportive but above all they value my opinion. I am constantly learning and growing as a person with them by my side.
No day in Radiant and Brighter is the same. Things change and it’s always 100mph but I love it. I thrive when there’s lots of work to do. Working in administration I am able to oversee everything that goes on so I am able to get to know all the clients and try and make sure everything is organised. The job is very varied, which means I can get involved in all aspects of the business from being in meetings to attending events, taking the orientation and integration class, organising trips, organising events and facilitating the children’s choir. Radiant and Brighter motto is to inspire, educate and change perceptions. They have accomplished all 3 with me. I am constantly inspired with the wonderful people that I get to work with and my job in communications is to try and show the rest of the world the sheer brilliance that I get to see on a daily basis.
For me Radiant and Brighter have changed my way of thinking and as a result made me a better person. I love what I do so it doesn’t even feel like work and for that I count myself very lucky indeed.
